Pixel Eyes Productions was co-founded by James Spencer and Jon Sortland.

For our debut video we chose to use a technique known as machinima. Our game engine of choice for our debut film "Shelf Life" was the Source Engine developed by Valve. The games we used included Half Life 2, Counter Strike, Day of Defeat, Portal and Team Fortress.

The game that really allowed us to break into the Source Engine and explore the world of machinima is a mod for Half Life 2 called Garry's Mod (GMod). GMod allows you load any model or map and set up scenes or create gadgets to your hearts content and was definitely the catalyst to our machinima aspirations.

After many hours of research and testing we slowly began improving our skills until we finally were able to tap into most of the technical aspects of the tools offered by Valve and third party tools offered by many industrious geeks.

However, after receiving confirmation that Valve has no interest in machinima we decided it was time to broaden our horizons. It just so happens that Reallusion generously gave us their powerful movie making software package iClone Pro 4 so our future productions may include iClone or other software that allows users to own their content.

Based in San Francisco California we wander around our beautiful city, work in coffee shops and put in long hours in front of our monitors.

We continue to pursue innovative new techniques for filming and always look for other machinima makers who love to create high quality films.
